Transforming Downtown – Strengthening Quay Street Seawall

Future proofing the Downtown area for another 100 years means we need to strengthen the historic seawall along Quay Street. This is the first step towards a revitalised waterfront area, with wider footpaths, easier navigation, more trees, and greater opportunity for business and events.

Our video shows the piling between Queens Wharf to Marsden Wharf – the oldest section of the seawall built in the 1800s. The 100-tonne piling rig is reaching depths of up to 23 metres in some places and once completed 96 reinforced concrete piles will be in place to protect Quay Street.

Puhinui Station Temporary Closure

28 September 2019 to early 2021

Puhinui Station will be closed from Saturday 28 September to allow construction of the new transport interchange.

Trains will continue to operate on the existing Southern and Eastern Lines during construction, but they won’t stop at Puhinui Station. Transfers between Lines can be made at Otahuhu or Papatoetoe Stations.

During station closure a new, free, 349 bus service will operate from Puhinui to Papatoetoe station. It will run seven days a week, every 10 minutes during peak time and 20 minutes off-peak time. No AT HOP card or cash ticket is required for this service.

Watch this video to find out more around the alternative plans during station closure.

Second Stage of the Hibiscus Bus Station

The second stage of the Hibiscus Coast Busway Station build will begin soon.

The work will involve construction of a station building, an additional 90 car parks and minor re-configuration of the lanes at the intersection with Painton Road. Once the station is completed it will include AT HOP top-up facilities, toilets, secure cycle parking, and waiting areas that will be well lit and protected from the elements.

We appreciate that there has been some wait for construction of this station building, so thanks to customers for their patience. Work is expected to be completed late next year.

More Electric Trains are on the way!

The first of our 15 new three-carriage trains has left the factory in Spain. Built by CAF in Beasain, the train carriages are split up before loaded on to a truck and delivered by road to the nearest port in Bilbao.

The first train is expected to arrive in Auckland by October, with passengers jumping on board before the end of the year. These trains add to the AT’s existing electric train fleet and will help with capacity in the next few years.

All of the 15 new trains should arrive in Auckland by July 2020, and be operational by September 2020.
