City Rail Link Media release: COMPUTER FINAL
CRL finalist in prestigious international awards
City Rail Link’s (CRL) Link Alliance is a finalist in a prestigious international competition that recognises the use of BIM (Building Information Modelling) to design and build large-scale infrastructure projects.
CRL is the only project from the Southern Hemisphere to reach of the finals of the large projects (over $500-million) category for Autodesk’s AEC (Architecture, Engineering & Construction) Excellence Awards.
The Link Alliance, which is delivering the main tunnels and stations contract for City Rail Link Ltd, is pioneering the use of digital processes and technology to deliver the country’s largest infrastructure project.
The Link Alliance’s Project Director, Francois Dudouit, says reaching the finals is recognition of the technological shifts and professional development CRL is creating in New Zealand.
“Linking the digital and physical worlds of CRL is a game changer. With this technology we can take the data generated during construction and update our digital models to resolve any issues to achieve the very best from our designs.”
Mr Dudouit says the Link Alliance successfully integrated 430 designers from 30 countries and 16 disciplines to build a digital model on the entire CRL project. Work on the model continued during the Covid lockdown earlier this year.
“We are laying a digital foundation that other projects can build upon – paving the way for the digital future of New Zealand,” he says.
The winning entry will be announced next month in the USA.
